HEARTLAND YOGA LIVE! - Sunday, September 19, 5-7PM.  Join us for a 90 minute outdoor practice of meditation, asana, breathwork, and yoga nidra led by 4 of Heartland's teachers.  Accompanying the teaching will be the kirtan (devotional singing/chanting) of Jonas Magram and his band. This event will take place on the patio of the Plaza Towers on the 3rd floor.  Come to Heartland first to pick up your mat and sign in, and then we'll direct you up 1 floor to the patio. Following the practice, stay for refreshments and more kirtan with Jonas. You get a 2 hour class with live music for the price of a regular class!!!!  Don't miss this big event!!!

Thursday Night Special Series - Begins September 16 at 7PM: Starting mid-September, we'll be offering 4 and 6 week series that allow you to move deeper into various aspects of the yoga experience.  Registration is required for these courses as we need to guarantee a certain number to hold the course.  Our first course is entitled "Body and Breath" and will be taught by Heartland teacher, Kathy Moon.  This is a class for yogis at all levels who wish to enrich their yoga practice to experience the full power of yoga beyond asana (postures).  Along with our asana practice, we will explore pranayama, chanting and meditation to tune our minds and hearts, cultivate the life force, and deepen our connection with Self/Spirit.  Class is 75 min.  To register, call 354-4062 or email us at info@icheartlandyoga.com.

MINDFUL BIRTHING: A holistic childbirth course for expectant mothers & couples.   It integrates prenatal yoga, holistic childbirth education, mindfulness, and hypnosis for childbirth.  Our next course begins Sunday, October 17 from 2-5PM and runs through December 12 (we will take Thanksgiving weekend off).  Please click here for more information and to register.

NEXT SPIRITUAL READING GROUP: - September 12 at 7:30PM.   The second Sunday evening of every month, the studio will be home to a reading group that will explore various traditions and ideas related to spirituality. We will start with a 20-minute meditation and move into a discussion of that night's reading. Readings will be short -- book chapters, articles, and podcasts. Each month, a different member of the group will choose the reading and lead the discussion. Heartland yogi Jennifer New and Chris Loeckle will coordinate the group and can be reached at jkn@jennifernew.com . The September 12th  reading is an article by Pema Chodron, "Three Methods for Working with Chaos". The second meeting, Sunday, October 10th will be a podcast, "No Fear of Fear," by Juan Carlo Castro, presented on the Interdependence Project web site via iTunes.

REIKI I TRAINING: - Saturday, September 18, 12-5pm.  Reiki is an ancient eastern healing art that utilizes the flow of universal energy to bring healing and balance to the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies. Students will learn the practice and philosophy of reiki through lecture, written materials, attunement to the reiki energy, and hands on practice.  This first level of reiki is specifically focused on self-healing.  No experience in the healing arts is required. Courtney Keyes, LMT, RM, will be leading the workshop. Cost is $150. To register, call Courtney at 319-321-9933 or email her at orchidhealing@hotmail.com.

BRAND NEW BEGINNERS CLASS: This ongoing 4 week series happens each Wednesday of the month at 7PM (if there is a 5th Wednesday of the month, that evening is an all levels restorative yoga class appropriate for anyone).   The series starts the first Wednesday of each month, and goes for 4 weeks.  The classes are designed to cover the major yoga poses, so that by the end of the series, students will feel comfortable taking any of the All Levels or Level 1 classes at Heartland. Is taught by rotating staff so students have opportunity to meet many of the teachers at Heartland. Cost is $32 for 4 weeks, and series must be completed in 2 months.  For more info, click here.
